Greg Crane of Fremont wins 160-pound state title

Greg Crane of Fremont earned the school its third championship of the night as he won the 160-pound state title, beating Victor Carazo of Grace Davis.

Carazo struck first, getting an early takedown. Crane got one back quickly on an escape, but gave two back on a takedown to make it 4-1 Carazo. Carazo allowed an escape to narrow the gap to 4-2 in easily the most active first period of the night thus far.

In the second, an early escape by Crane made it 4-3. Crane was awarded one point after Carazo was penalized for leaving the mat. Carazo got the lead back quickly on a hard takedown to make it 6-4. Crane got an escape with 50 seconds left to make it 6-5, which is how the period ended.

In the third, Carazo got a point for an escape to make it 7-5 early. Crane tied the match on a reversal with 50 seconds left, 7-7. Crane got two points on a near fall with 21 seconds left to take a 9-7 lead. Carazo got one late point to narrow it to 9-8 but he could get no more.

Earlier this season, Crane beat Carazo 12-10 at the Reno Tournament of Champions.
