Boris Novachkov of Fremont High School

Sport: Wrestling.

Weight: 125 pounds. Class: Senior.

Accomplishment: Novachkov rolled through six opponents to win his second consecutive title at the CIF state wrestling tournament. Novachkov (43-1), who will follow his older brother Filip and wrestle at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo next season, pinned Vacaville’s Kody Klaus in the first round of their semifinal match and then dominated David Prado of Oakley’s Freedom High 7-1 in the final, cutting Prado loose for his only point of the match. “This kid never missed a practice,” Coach Bobby Soto said. “He is one of the smartest wrestlers I have ever seen. He can beat a guy by a point, then the next time he wrestles him he’ll win by 10 points. He just knows how to win.”
