Ngo finishes 2nd at Northern Regionals; 6 qualify for state championships next weekend!!!!
Eggy Ngo (133) qualified for the state championships with a 2nd place finish at yesterdays Northern California Regional Championships. West Valley was able to qualify 6 of 10 weight classes for next weekends State Championships. Ngo defeated Armando Martinez of Delta in the quarterfinals, and followed that up with a fall in the 2nd period over Blake Nichols of Sacramento City in the semi-finals. In the finals however, Ngo was not able to repeat last years Nor. Cal. Championship as he lost to Norman Richmond of Sierra 19-9. Gabe Lara (141) captured 3rd place to qualify to next weeks tournament. Gabe finished the day 4-1 including a fall over Edgar Mercado of Fresno city in the 3rd place match. Markham Bertron (157) improved on last years 7th place finish with a 4th place finish, and an automatic berth to the State Championships. Bertron secured a top 4 finish with an overtime victory over Jake Bridges of Shasta College. Also making his first trip to the State Championships will be Lucas Duckwall (184). Duckwall pinned Troy Ramsdell of Delta College for a 6th place finish. Fernando Martinez (125) and Ernie Vashlesse (174) also finish in 6th place and will compete in next weekends State Championships. 3 West Valley wrestlers finished in 7th place, and will be alternates. Aris Harutuyan (149), Zack Wicht (165), and Nolan Verga (285) are the alternates. Next week the season will conclude with the State Championships at Fresno City College. The first session will start Friday Morning at 9:00 AM.

Does Fernando Martinez wrestle for Army or West Valley? I thought Fernando Martinez wrestled for Army while Fernando Munoz wrestled for West Valley. Oh well, I’m sure Coach Jeff knows his own wrestlers’ names.
Is there anyway I can trade for Fernando Martinez?
Munoz is a pretty cool kid so you should keep him.
I’m not sure that Army would take that straight up anyway as Army would receive a good wrestler from a prestigious community college in Saratoga while West Valley would receive a future American leader from one of the elite academic institutions. You would probably have to throw in Ngo, Harutuyan, Soto and a few others.
You should join us this year for the NCAAs as Boris, Fil and Atondo should be wrestling.
